Smart EFT (RPP)
Description
PayU’s EFT payment option will allow Customers to pay using their internet banking. The PayU Smart EFT service offering is instant* and available for Customers who use one of the 4 major banks in South Africa (Nedbank, Standard Bank, First National Bank and ABSA). As soon as the Customer makes the payment PayU will instantly notify the Merchant so goods can be released. There is no need to wait for several days for the funds to be cleared. Furthermore the PayU Smart EFT payment method does not require the Customer to sign up to or have an account with PayU.Â
Transactions can additionally be viewed on the PayU Merchant Portal. This portal will provide a view of all PayU EFT transactions and display the last status. This is the same transaction history PayU uses to formulate billing invoices, giving Merchants complete transparency  and providing a platform for Merchants to perform reconcilation with their own transaction/order history.
Banks Supported
Currently Smart EFT is only available through Nedbank, Standard Bank, First National Bank and ABSA. A Customer has the option of selecting the bank that they bank with to make the payment.Â
*Currently Standard Bank is not instant
Smart EFT Payment Flows
RPP Page -> Select Smart EFT and select bank
From the PayU direct payments page the Customer will select to pay using Smart EFT. This will display the payment option information n and give the Customer the option of selecting their bank.  The Customer will select the bank that they bank with and click the Continue button.
Smart EFT payment details
This will display the EFT details that will assist the customer to pay using EFT. A link to the chosen bank is provided along with the amount and reference number to be paid. There is also an expiry period that can be displayed to ensure that the customer pays within a certain timeframe.
Once the Customer makes the payment they are able to verify that the payment is made by clicking the Verity button. This button will check that the payment has been made and a notification has been received from the bank. On this page the Customer also has the option to have an email sent to them or/and print a PDF of the page. Though this payment method is meant to be instant we have made allowances for Merchants who would like to give Customers a longer period (expiry date) to make the payment. This is configurable per Merchant
Verify Payment Not Successful
When the Customer clicks the Verify Payment button and we have not received the notification for this reference number then a screen will display to assist the Customer in paying and providing the reference details that they have paid with. If the Customer has checked their internet bank and the reference number they used was not the one provided then they need to contact the Merchant or PayU to provide the correct details used to pay for the purchase. Once this is done we will match it to the correct EFT payment that was generated by the Merchant.
Â
Successful Transaction
Once the payment is found the standard PayU success page is presented to the Customer and an IPN is fired to the Merchant that a payment has been made.
Instant Payment Notification (IPN)
The SmartEFT product relies heavily on the information only available in the IPN sent to the merchant. As such a few extra transaction states are introduced specific to SmartEFT. For more information on this please refere to the IPN page
Email and PDF
An email is also sent to the Customer by their request or if the Merchant sends PayU the Customer details. This will contain the details of the transaction and allow the Customer to verify the payment at a later date.
Â
Merchant Portal
The EFT transactions can be viewed through the PayU Merchant Portal. When a Merchant signs up for this Payment Method PayU will enable Smart EFT on the Merchant Portal. This will allow the Merchant to have a complete view of the transactions that were made on their site as well as the status of the transaction (if payment has been received, transaction has expired etc.)
